US Trauma Centers Established

A minority of trauma care advances were derived from civilians, over time, the models developed during battle have been applied to the rest of the population.

The first trauma centers were established in 1966 in the US cities of San Francisco and Chicago.  During this time urban violence and penetrating trauma were on the rise in the United States and demographics of trauma patients changed.
