At the end of this section you will be able to:

• Explain some of the income related barriers that exist to the access and proper use of contraception.

• Contrast the experience of infertility for couples and individuals with higher and lower socioeconomic status.

• Identify the challenges faced by low income women in pregnancy, especially those related to prenatal care, nutrition, smoking and social support.

• Identify barriers to cervical and breast cancer screening faced by low income women, and describe ways in which these barriers may be overcome.

• Identify barriers that exist for low income men and women to optimize their reproductive health, and describe strategies that may help overcome these barriers.

• Describe the ways in which poverty and intimate partner violence interact and identify screening tools for woman abuse.
