The Cost of Treatment

  • In Ontario, one cycle of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) costs about $7750 - $12,250 ($250 for semen analysis, $2500 - $7000 for medications and $5000 for the IVF).[3] Prices are similar across Canada.

  • In women under 40, 28-30% of embryo transfers result in a pregnancy.[3]

  • In Ontario, the Provincial government pays for three cycles of IVF (not including medications) for women with bilateral blocked fallopian tubes.[3] This is not the case anywhere else in Canada.

  • Intrauterine insemination costs $450 in addition to the cost of medications ($27 - $2500).[3]

  • In addition to monetary costs, there are enormous time costs associated with infertility treatment that may disrupt work schedules and threaten income and job security.[4]
