Objectives - Poverty and Aging

At the end of this section you will be able to:

• Describe the epidemiology of poverty in Canadians over age 65, and in particular the differences between men and women in this age group.

• Identify major sources of income for Canadians over 65 and explain the limitations of these.

• Identify the barriers to proper nutrition faced by older adults and describe the potential health impacts of these.

• Contrast the use of home and long term care by men and women and identify income related barriers to accessing these services.
